CoP 3 - Proposal Tutorial

I had my Proposal Tutorial with my Tutor today, I felt fairly certain on what I wanted to do with my dissertation but I've been lacking a 'methodology' to look into and a theorist to back it up with. Also for my practical I was a little unsure on how I should go about starting to test the different games I was going to play in a critical way.

My Tutor proposed to me that I could look into Re-Mediation as it's something I had brought up in my proposal when talking about Minecraft and how people have used it as a tool to re-create worlds, stories and characters in a different virtual realm. Another term that my Tutor brought up was 'Remixing' and said that Lawrence Lessig would be  good academic mind to research into on the subject.

I'm really happy with finding this out because it links perfectly with what I want to talk about with editors and games being used to create user-generated content. It doesn't always have to be game related! It can involve story-telling, testing and education too. I feel looking into the realm Remixing and re-mediating within platforms of games would be a really good soapbox for me to stand on.

Moving forward with my practical side of CoP I need to devise a set of critical questions in order to survey different editors and game-tool platforms accurately. (My Own Rating System?)

The 2 books i picked up from the Library that hold academic approaches to  re-mediation are:

- Remix: Art & Commerce Thrive in the Hybrid Economy by Lawrence Lessig
- Here Comes Everybody: The Power of Organizing without Organizations by Clay Shirky
